Feltiella acarisuga is a predatory midge. This species is highly specialist for feeding on spider mite. The larvae are a translucent to yellow-ish colour and feed exclusively on spider mites. This is a voracious predator which is best suited to curative control of established spidermite colonies.

Key Features

  • Curative treatment for established spider mites
  • Each larvae can consume 30 spidermite adults or 80 eggs per day
  • Actively searches pest in leaf canopy.
  • Forms cocoons on leaves which are easily visible to help monitoring.
  • Adult Feltiella searches out spider mite colonies and lays eggs.

Target Pests

Spider Mites

How It Works

Adult females will actively search the crop to find spider mite colonies. Once they find a colony they will lay their eggs next to it. The eggs will hatch to become predatory larvae which will feed exclusively on spider mites. The larvae will eventually form cocoons on the leaves which will hatch into the next generation of adults. Feltiella will not disperse if adequate food is present so it is important to ensure proper distribution in the greenhouse. Do not use in presence of generalist predators like Macrolophus or Nesidiocoris. Avoid regular use of sulphur which can affect the survival and development of Feltiella. Feltiline should be used as part of an IPM program including predatory mites such as Phytoline, Californiline or Anderline.
