Macroline biological control agent contains the predatory bug, Macrolophus pygmaeus.  This generalist predatory bug is primarily released for whitefly control, but will feed on other pests such as moth eggs and caterpillars.

Key Features

  • All mobile stages are predatory.
  • Feeding with Ephestia eggs (Bug Food E) will enhance the establishment of Macrolophus due to increased fecundity.
  • Highly recommended for use in Tomatoes and Aubergines
  • Considered a generalist predator also feeding on moth eggs and other pests.
  • Takes 8 to 12 weeks to establish population.

How It Works

  • All mobile stages are voracious predators of whitefly larva and pupa.
  • Macroline is best used in combination with the wasps Encarsia formosa and Eretmocerus eremicus.
  • Once established it will feed on other pests such as moth eggs and caterpillars.

Available delivery systems

Supplied in 150ml bottles that contain 250 or 500 adults and late instar nymphs.
  • Packed in containers with paper towel strips and a sugar food source plug.
  • Protein food source (some Ephestia eggs) in ventilated bottles ensures optimal condition of the bugs on delivery.

Handling & Storage

Instructions for use

  • Release Macrolophus as uniformly as possible throughout the crop, preferably in subdued light early or late in the day to avoid adults flying directly to the vents.
  • Open the pack where it is needed and walk along the plant rows, lifting and gently shaking the wood flakes to distribute the adults.
  • Leave the packaging at the base of a plant to allow any remaining adults to leave.
  • Use Bugfood E to aid establishment of the Macrolophus

Storage and transport

  • Use product within 18 hours of receipt.
  • Transport and store at 6-10˚C.
  • Keep product out of direct sunlight.
